Electronic musical instrument

An electronic musical instrument is a musical instrument that produces its sounds using electronics. In contrast, the term electric instrument is used to mean instruments whose sound is produced mechanically, and only amplified or altered electronically - for example an electric guitar. Usually the instrument will have some way of controlling the sound, such as by adjusting the pitch, frequency, or duration of each note.

All electric and electronic musical instruments can be viewed as a subset of audio signal processing applications. Simple electronic musical instruments are sometimes called sound effects; the border between sound effects and actual musical instruments is often hazy.

French composer and engineer Edgard Varèse created a variety of compositions using electronic horns, whistles, and tape. Most notably, he wrote Poème Électronique for the Phillips pavilion at the Brussels World Fair in 1958.

Electronic musical instruments are now widely used in most styles of music. The development of new electronic musical instruments continues to be a highly active and interdisciplinary field of research. Specialized conferences, notably the International Conference on New interfaces for musical expression, have organized to report cutting edge work, as well as to provide a showcase for artists who perform or create music with new electronic music instruments.

Early electronic musical instruments
In the broadest sense, the very first electrified musical instrument was the Denis d’or, dating from 1753. It was followed by the Clavecin électrique by the Frenchman Jean-Baptiste de Laborde in 1761.

The first purely electronic musical instrument was the Telharmonium, built by Thaddeus Cahill in 1906. Employing electric generators and tonewheels to produce notes, it had a length of 60ft and a weight of 200 tons; because of a lack of suitable loudspeakers at that time, the music was distributed over the telephone network.

One of the many instruments constructed in the following decades was the Theremin, invented by Leon Theremin in 1917, which used a pair of heterodyned vacuum tube RF oscillators to make an audible tone that varied in pitch depending on the distance, and thus the capacitance, between the user and the instrument. This was followed in 1928 by the Ondes Martenot which had a keyboard as well as several auxiliary controllers.

The sound of the Ondes Martenot is used extensively in the Turangalîla-Symphonie and other works by Olivier Messiaen. However, these were not true synthesizers in the modern sense, as they were not configurable to produce a range of complex sounds by additive or subtractive synthesis, instead generating single pure tones with controllable pitch, amplitude and vibrato.

Ca. 1929 Friedrich Trautwein invented the Trautonium in Berlin. It was played with a resistor wire which has to be pressed against a metal plate. Oskar Sala was one of the first players and continued development until his death in 2002. Paul Hindemith wrote some compositions for it.

These early electronic instruments produced only pure tones and were frequently used to make avant garde music. In April 1935, Laurens Hammond introduced the Hammond tonewheel organ, which generated complex tones using an electro-mechanical principle derived from the design of the Telharmonium. Later Hammond used the Leslie speaker to achieve special modulation effects, and the resulting Hammond organ sound is still regarded as the benchmark for the “electric organ” sound. This sound can be simulated by many modern synthesizers and digital samplers.

5 Ways To Improve Your Adsense Earnings

If webmasters want to monetize their websites, the great way to do it is through Adsense. There are lots of webmasters struggling hard to earn some good money a day through their sites. But then some of the “geniuses” of them are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from Adsense ads on their websites. What makes these webmasters different from the other kind is that they are different and they think out of the box.

The ones who have been there and done it have quite some useful tips to help those who would want to venture into this field. Some of these tips have boosted quite a lot of earnings in the past and is continuously doing so.

Here are some 5 proven ways on how best to improve your Adsense earnings.

1. Concentrating on one format of Adsense ad. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format have the tendency to result in higher CTR, or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.

3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off than the others, put your ads there and try to maintaining and managing them. If there is already lots of Adsense put into that certain site, put yours on top of all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, save it as “adsense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.

Note also that there are many other Adsense sharing the same topic as you. It is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.

Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.

If others have done it, there is nothing wrong trying it out for yourself.

Google Adsense - The Easiest Money To Make Online?

For the last couple of months, Google Adsense has dominated forums, discussions and newsletters all over the Internet. Already, there are tales of fabulous riches to be made and millions made by those who are just working from home. It seems that Google Adsense have already dominated the internet marketing business and is now considered the easiest way to making money online.

The key to success with Adsense is the placing of ads on pages that are receiving high traffic for high demand keywords. The higher the cost-per-click to the advertiser, the more you will receive per click from your site. Obviously, it does not pay to target low cost-per-click keywords and place them on pages that do not receive hits.

With all the people getting online and clicking away everyday, it is no wonder why Google Adsense has become an instant hit.

For some who are just new to this market, it would be a blow to their pride knowing that their homepage is buried somewhere in the little ads promoting other people’s services. But then, when they get the idea that they are actually earning more money that way, all doubts and skepticism is laid to rest.

There are two major, and clever, factors that some successful webmaster and publishers are learning to blend together in order to make money easier using Adsense.

1. Targeting high traffic pages on your website. If you check on your logs, you will discover that many of your visitors are taking advantage of the free affiliate marketing resources and ebooks that you are offering on your site. In simple words, your ads are working effectively and are generating more clicks. It also means more money for you.

2. Placing Adsense links on pages that are producing little, or better yet, no profit. By placing Adsense on a free resources page, you will reduce the amount of potential customers being lost to other sites. Tricky, but effective nonetheless.

When learned to work effectively, these two factors are actually a good source of producing a minimal amount of revenue from a high traffic page. Many people are using this strategy to pick up some extra and cash with Adsense. This is also especially rewarding to informational sites that focus their efforts on delivering powerful affiliate link free content to their visitors. Now they can gain a monetary return on their services.

With the many techniques that people are now learning on how to make the easiest money by their Adsense, it is not surprising that Google is trying everything to update and polish their Adsense in order to maintain their good image.

The possibility of adding is 2nd tier in Adsense is not impossible. With all the people spending more time in their Adsense now and still more getting into this line of marketing, there is no doubt about the many new improvements yet to be made. Imagine the smiles on the faces of the webmasters and publishers all around the world if ever they sign up for sub-affiliates and double or even triple the amount that they are already earning.
The one particularly handy money-making feature that is available with Adsense now is the ability to filter out up to 200 urls. These gives webmasters the option to block out low value offers from their pages as well as competitors to their websites. Talk about taking only those that are advantageous and discarding the ones that seem “useless”.

With Google Adsense, the possibilities are limitless. Yet there is also the possibility of someone taking advantage of the easy money process that this internet marketing is doing. If you think more about it, these negative factors may force Google to break down and thrash Adsense in the process. If that happens, people would have to go back to the old ways of internet marketing that does not make money online as easy as Adsense.

For now, however, Google Adsense is here to stay. As long as there are people wanting to earn some easy cash online just using their talents, the future ahead is looking good. Besides with all the strict guidelines that Google is enforcing over Adsense, it will take awhile for the Adsense privileges to be spammed and even terminated.

Interview Tips - How To Improve Your Performance At Interviews

The approach you take at your interview could have a dramatic effect on your career prospects.

No matter how good your career record is, the employment interview remains a key step in the process of achieving career ambitions.

These suggestions will help you perform confidently and effectively when you meet your prospective employer for that all important first interview.

Prepare For The Interview
Preparation is the key to a successful interview. First impressions count.

You only get ONE chance at a first impression.
Know the exact time and place of the interview, and the interviewer’s name and title.
Find out all you can about the company. There are research publications in the Library and elsewhere that can supply you with information.
Refresh your memory regarding details of present and past employers and your work history in their companies. Pay particular attention to how you will describe your most important achievements.
Prepare the questions YOU will ask in your interview.
Pay close attention to grooming and dress. Standard business attire is normally appropriate, however, find out what is expected.
The Interview
You are being interviewed because the interviewer wants to hire somebody - not because he/she wants to trip you up or embarrass you.

Through the interaction which will take place during the interview he/she will be searching out your strong and weak points, evaluating you on your qualifications, skills and intellectual qualities and he/she will probably probe deeply to determine your attitudes, aptitudes, stability, motivation and maturity.
Arrive on time or a few minutes early. Late is NEVER excusable.
Wait to be OFFERED a chair before sitting. Look alert and interested, never let your attention waver.
Be a good listener as well as talker. Smile when appropriate but never to excess.
If presented with an application, fill it out neatly and HONESTLY.
Make sure you get your good points across in a sincere, factual manner.
Be concise, but never abrupt.
If you have the impression all is not going well, don’t let your discouragement show. You may be wrong, and spoil your chances.
Never enquire about salary, holidays, bonuses, etc at your initial interview.
Conduct youself with confidence, but not complacency. A positive attitude is acceptable, arrogance is not.
Be prepared with answers and supporting examples to questions such as:
What are your career aspirations?
Why do you want to work for our company?
Of your previous jobs which did you enjoy most and why?
How have you managed conflict in the past?
Describe what you have done in your career that shows your initiative?
What are your weaknesses? Your strengths?
What does teamwork mean to you?
Can you re-locate if requested?
Things We Like To See Evidence Of During An Interview
During your interview, the employer will be evaluating your total performance. Listed below are some factors that will usually produce a positive reaction from a prospective employer.
Interested balanced approach.
Ability to express thoughts clearly.
Career planning and objectives.
Confidence.
Informative replies.
Tact, maturity, courtesy.
Maintenance of eye contact.
Positive handshake.
Closing The Interview
If you are interested in the position let the interviewer know.
If you need time to think about an offer, ask for it. Most employers respect the need for a considered judgement.
Don’t be discouraged if there is nothing “concrete” at the end of the interview.
The employer almost always needs time to make THEIR considered judgement.
Thank the interviewer for his/her time and consideration.
Don’t indulge in small talk at the end of the interview (or during it), unless invited to do so.
After The Interview Immediately call the Consultant (or Administrative Assistant) who referred you to the position and describe how the interview went. He / she will want your views before the employer calls, and will appreciate the courtesy of your feedback.

If you are, or are not interested in progressing with the position further, we need to know as soon as possible.

Finally, relax - you have now done all you can

9 RONALDO

Date of birth: 22 September 1976
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 82 kg
Position: Forward
Current Club: Real Madrid (ESP)
Int’l Goals: 62 (as of 1-Jul-2006)
Int’l Caps: 97 (as of 1-Jul-2006)
First Int’l Cap: Brazil v. Argentina (23-Mar-1994)

Profile
Only occasionally can the bare facts and figures of a player’s career convey the sheer talent that they possess. Ronaldo Luiz Nazario da Silva is quite simply one of the greatest strikers in the history of world football, capable of leaving an entire team for dead with his darting runs and dribbling ability, voted FIFA World Player of the Year on three occasions and already a double FIFA World Cup™ winner. These honours are merely the tip of the iceberg in the record-breaking career of the man they call ‘The Phenomenon’.

Born in the working-class neighbourhood of Bento Ribeiro, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo’s precocious talents were recognised at an extremely young age, and it did not take long before he exploded on to the professional scene. At the age of 15 Ronaldo was turning out for Rio club Sao Cristovao, before he was snapped up by Belo Horizonte side Cruzeiro. The young striker was quick to make a name for himself, producing a string of dazzling displays in the Campeonato Brasileiro which saw him receive his first national team call up at only 17 years’ of age. From that moment on, his international career took off.

Having been a member of the FIFA World Cup-winning Brazil squad in 1994, the prodigiously talented teenager joined Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the same year. In only two years at the club, he scored 54 goals in a mere 57 games – an incredible average of just under a goal every game.

That goal ratio soon attracted Barcelona’s interest, and the Catalan club wasted no time in securing their new star’s signature. At Barcelona, Ronaldo reached new heights, winning the FIFA World Player of the Year awards in 1996 and 1997 along the way. In 1998, and now with Inter Milan, Ronaldo began the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France as a fully-established first-team player for his country. Under the guidance of coach Mario Jorge ‘Lobo’ Zagallo, the Brazilians blazed their way through to the final only to lose 3-0 to their French hosts. It was a result that shook the whole of Brazil to its foundations, and for Ronaldo it signalled the beginning of the most turbulent chapter of his footballing career. On the morning of the final, the mercurial striker suffered a sudden convulsive fit, which almost ruled him out of the match itself. Despite Ronaldo battling on to play, many members of the squad later admitted that the incident destabilised the team at a critical moment.

Injury blow
The worst was yet to come for the Brazilian striker. Having seen FIFA World Cup victory slip from his grasp, Ronaldo then underwent the most difficult period of his career. On 21 November 1999, during a Serie A match against Lecce, Ronaldo felt his knee buckle and was forced to limp off the pitch. Medical exams after the match confirmed that the striker had ruptured a tendon in his right knee and would require surgery. Only four months after his operation he returned to action against Lazio on 12 April 2000 in the first leg of the Coppa Italia Final.

However, disaster struck just six minutes into the game when an unmarked Ronaldo twisted his recently-repaired knee. The image of the forlorn Brazilian striker, crumpled in a heap and howling in agony, is one that still shocks to this day.

Again the doctors confirmed Ronaldo’s worst fears, stating that he had torn those same knee ligaments. Opinion was divided as to the extent of the injury, but the future looked bleak. Indeed, many specialists thought that the footballing genius would never fully recover and that his career was as good as over. But, on 20 September 2001, 17 months and eight days after the original injury, Ronaldo was back playing against Romanian club Brasov in a UEFA Cup match in Trieste. Despite the length of his recovery period, it soon became clear that the brilliant Brazilian had lost none of his goalscoring prowess.

In 2002, he moved back to Spain with Real Madrid and the then Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari gambled on the forward’s return to form and fitness by calling him up to Brazil’s FIFA World Cup squad. No one could have predicted a better outcome. Not only had Brazil won their fifth FIFA World Cup, but the ‘Phenomenon’ was the tournament’s top scorer, netting eight goals in only seven games. Only Pele has netted as many goals for Brazil in the competition’s history – both players having scored 12 times. In 2006 Ronaldo will be looking to surpass that figure as well as overhaul Gerd Muller’s long-standing 14-goal record as top scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup. Opposition defences beware.

Welcome Vista, Goodbye XP

Windows Vista is the latest release of Microsoft Windows, a line of graphical operating systems used on personal computers, including home and business desktops. Before its announcement on July 22, 2005, Vista was known by its codename Longhorn. On November 8, 2006, Windows Vista development was completed and released to manufacturing. Over the next two months it was released to MSDN subscribers, computer hardware and software manufacturers and volume license customers. On January 30, 2007, it was released worldwide to the general public, and is available for download from Microsoft’s web site. These release dates come more than five years after the release of its predecessor, Windows XP, making it the longest time span between two releases of Windows.

According to Microsoft, Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features; some of the most significant include an updated graphical user interface and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems. Vista also aims to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it easier to share files and digital media between computers and devices. For developers, Vista introduces version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, which aims to make it significantly easier for developers to write high-quality applications than with the traditional Windows API.

Microsoft’s primary stated objective with Vista, however, has been to improve the state of security in the Windows operating system. One of the most common criticisms of Windows XP and its predecessors has been their commonly exploited security vulnerabilities and overall susceptibility to malware, viruses and buffer overflows. In light of this, then Microsoft chairman Bill Gates announced in early 2002 a company-wide ‘Trustworthy Computing initiative’ which aims to incorporate security work into every aspect of software development at the company. Microsoft claimed that it prioritized improving the security of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 above finishing Windows Vista, significantly delaying its completion.

During the course of its development, Vista has been the target of a number of negative assessments by various groups. Criticism of Windows Vista has included protracted development time, more restrictive licensing terms, the inclusion of a number of new Digital Rights Management technologies aimed at restricting the copying of protected digital media, and the usability of new features such as User Account Control.

If you are using Windows Vista, this is the place to give your general thoughts about it. Review Vista and let others know what you think of it. What do you like about it? What do you hate about it? What could it do better? Compare Vista with previous versions of Windows, such as XP. Please give details rather than just saying it’s great or it sucks. So, have at it.

Here are the amount of searches done in November 2006 for these 2 keywords:

1) ‘melayu boleh‘ : 14,220 searches
2) ‘melayu bogel‘ : 13,692 searches

Do you see any significant differences? I’ve forgotten how to calculate the differences which we can say it is significant or not, but by looking at that figures alone, I can say that they’re not significantly different.

What does this mean?

I reckoned that the searches has been done by the same people! It’s okay if you didn’t agree with me but it is just my opinion, based on my personal experinces.

Indonesia plans to retrieve flight data recorder from crashed jetliner

Indonesia will attempt to retrieve the flight data recorder from a jetliner that crashed into the sea with 102 people on board – a difficult and expensive operation given ocean depths of more than 1,700 meters (one mile) but key to determining the accident’s cause, an investigator said Friday.

A U.S. Navy vessel picked up signals from the flight data and cockpit recorders, also known as black boxes, in waters off Sulawesi island, and has informed Indonesian officials of their location, the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta said Thursday.

“The government and U.S. officials have met to determine how to recover the black boxes from the bottom of the sea,'’ said Setyo Raharjo, head of the National Commission on Transportation Safety.

He said Indonesia did not have the seabed salvage technology to retrieve the boxes, which the transport minister said were at a depth of more that 1,700 meters (more than a mile) and close to the last known position of the plane.

Small, unmanned submarines controlled by remote control have been used in other countries to recover the black boxes of jetliners that crashed at sea.

The Adam Air Boeing 737 went missing more than three weeks ago after reporting heavy winds off the western coast of Sulawesi while flying from Indonesia’s main island of Java.

Search teams have since found almost 200 pieces of debris – mostly small pieces of the wings, tail, cockpit and cabin – but no bodies.

The hull of the aircraft has not yet been recovered, but the embassy said the U.S. ship “detected heavy debris scattered over a wide area'’ close to where the signals were coming from.

The black boxes record crucial flight data such as a plane’s speed and altitude as well as the voices of the pilots.

Bloggers must be responsible

Bloggers must be responsible for what they write on the Internet as there are laws on defamation and sedition, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

The Prime Minister said these laws were enforceable and bloggers must bear in mind that they could not hide or take advantage of the Internet to do something that was against the law.

“They cannot hope to cover themselves or hide from the laws,” he told Malaysian journalists at the end of his three-day working visit here yesterday.

He said bloggers, just like newspaper journalists, must be responsible for what they wrote or risk facing legal action from others.

Abdullah was commenting on the legal action against bloggers Jeff Ooi and Ahirudin Attan by the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP), its deputy chairman Datuk Kali-mullah Masheerul Hassan, Group Editor in Chief Datuk Hishamuddin Aun and former Group Editor Brenden John Pereira.

He raised the question of “what was freedom without responsibility,” saying that laws must be respected.

On the lack of proficiency in English among teachers and lecturers, he said there was a need to improve the curriculum and methods to teach English in schools.

He added that Malaysians must understand that English was an international language.

Abdullah was responding to questions from journalists on the declining standard of English in Malaysian schools and universities.

Earlier, Abdullah told Malaysian students at the London School of Economics of the need for Malaysia to be competitive, pointing out the paces already made by the Chinese and India.

Google Is The Best Company To Work For 2007

Google in the number one position on FORTUNE’s 10th annual “100 Best Companies to Work For 2007” list. Google gets 1,300 resumes a day. Wow! That’s explain everything.

“At Google you can enjoy free gourmet meals; do your laundry; drop off your dry cleaning; get an oil change and get a massage all onsite. Work is such a cozy place that it’s sometimes difficult for Google employees to leave the office, which is precisely how the company justifies the expenses, none of which it breaks out of its administrative costs. Engineers can spend 20% of time on independent projects–no wonder Google gets 1,300 resumes a day. “It’s easy for Google’s people to be energized, though, when their company is so stinking rich that it continues to ooze cash even while lavishing benefits on its staff”

What Is Google AdSense

AdSense
Google’s AdSense program lets you sell advertising space for other people’s ads on your website–and not just any ads that Google chooses, but ads that are relevant to your site’s content pages. The service is free, and you earn money every time someone clicks on an ad.

AdSense is a great program, though Google has given it a confusing name. If they’d called it AdSpace, you’d know right away what it’s about: selling advertising space on your website. Despite the nomenclature issue, AdSense (www.google.com/adsense) has become popular with bloggers and other people who run noncommercial sites. You sign up, carve out some space on your pages for the ads (Figure 1), paste a few lines of code from Google into the HTML for your site, and let Google fill in your pages with color-coordinated ads. When somebody clicks one of the ads, Google pays you a fee (the amount varies, and the company doesn’t disclose its payments).

Note: AdSense can be tricky for e-commerce sites because you can’t fully control which ads appear on your site, and you wouldn’t want to run ads for your competitors’ merchandise right next to your own displays. You can, however, filter out some ads.

Though you can’t decide which ads appear on your site, Google does a very nice job of assessing your pages and supplying ads that might interest your visitors. For example, if you run a site about the history of window treatments, Google is likely to dish up ads for vintage blinds and specialty curtain rods. That kind of relevance is important, because Google doesn’t pay you when somebody sees an ad on your site; it pays you when somebody clicks an ad. So you want Google to fill your space with blurbs likely to interest your readers.

The $64,000 question is, of course, how much can you make? The exact answer is: it depends. If your site gets tons of visitors, and you focus on a narrow topic, there’s a good chance Google will serve up ads that appeal to a lot of people hitting your site. For example, if you run a popular site devoted to mobile gadgetry, you might make enough to buy a new device every few months. If your site gets sporadic traffic, or more important, if it’s not clearly about something, it may be hard for Google to supply highly relevant ads, and you might make enough to cover a box of paper clips every so often.

SELAMAT MENYAMBUT MA’AL HIJRAH 1428

11. Kesalahan Nabi Daud diampuni Allah.

12. Nabi Sulaiman dikurniakan Allah kerajaan yang besar.

13. Hari pertama Allah menciptakan alam.

14. Hari Pertama Allah menurunkan rahmat.

15. Hari pertama Allah menurunkan hujan.

16. Allah menjadikan ‘Arasy.

17. Allah menjadikan Luh Mahfuz.

18. Allah menjadikan alam.

19. Allah menjadikan Malaikat Jibril.

20. Nabi Isa diangkat ke langit.

Flavored Coffee Vs. Black Coffee

If a purist asks whether you want your coffee black, the answer will often be an inadvertent yes, then an inward grimace. Of course black coffee is delicious. Drink it like a hero, right? Not necessarily.

There are several wonderful flavors, blends and mixes that could be enjoyed as any coffee purist would, as a coffee is supposed to be enjoyed. This is precisely why over time coffee lovers all over the world have kept experimenting and coming out with different coffee flavors and roasts. The best part is, it has not yet been perfected. You, like the rest of us, still have the opportunity to decide which coffee is best for you. For all the hype and the claims to be “the best coffee in the world” by many manufacturers and growers, coffee really is a personal issue. There is absolutely no truth in the idea that some coffee are vastly superior to others. There is however, truth in the saying that the proof of a good coffee is in its brewing.

Life is definitely more exciting with a little more flavor. You take whatever coffee works best for you and be proud with the choice, whether it’s flavored coffee or black.

Flavored coffee drinkers must stand together and unite. When caught red-handed purchasing it, do not make the poor excuse that it was meant for your mother, honestly. Drink it and be happy with it. After all, it is your taste buds you want to please, not anyone else’s.

Enjoying flavored coffee may be as old as Hamurrabi. As a matter of fact, even the Turks of old, famous for having no sugar mixes, had the coffee in their ibrik with cinnamon, cardamom, clove (of all things), sometimes as weird as a pepper-flavored coffee. In other areas there is also a coconut flavored coffee. There are even rumors of flavoring with garlic. It can be gross, the length that one has to go just to have a flavored coffee. The purist who prefers his coffee black will grimace at that, but then you’re even.

Today, thank your lucky stars we have better ways of enjoying a good cup of flavored coffee. Flavored coffees come in countless flavors, including: Irish cream, mocha, amaretto, vanilla, peppermint, cinnamon spice, pumpkin spice, and raspberry.

Flavored coffee beans are divided into the following categories:

* Spice-based flavored coffee, such as cinnamon.

* Chocolate-based flavored coffee beans like mint mocha.

* Vanilla-based flavored coffee, including the nut-based flavors like hazelnut and macadamia nut flavored coffee.

* Fruit-based flavored coffee like raspberry, melon and coconut.

While the lists are the elementary groupings, roasters are also experimenting with mixing the groups to come out with a delicious coffee flavor.

As previously mentioned, coffee is still undergoing a tremendous amount of development and innovation. No perfect blend has been discovered in spite of thr various claims. Coffee lovers still have a chance to come out with their own original flavored coffee. Garlic, though, might be a bit much for even the most diehard coffee enthusiasts.

Organic Coffee Promotes Better Health

Around the world coffee is the second most traded item in the world, coming in just behind crude oil (although a distant second we’re sure). How ever as more and more people are paying attention to what they’re drinking and eating, organic coffee is sneaking up in the market share race.

Organic coffee wasn’t a real concern when coffee first gained people interest way back in 800 AD. It was a drink reserved for the wealthy and royalty, even in 1800’s when Brazil claimed the honor of having the largest international coffee crop, still no one was concerned where or with what the beans were grown.

Fast forward to toady, and there are strict rules and regulations for how any food product can or cannot be grown. Especially if you’re looking to grow an organic product. Organic coffee is primarily grown in mountainous areas, where insecticides and fertilizers can become part of the lower watershed once they’re washed down the hills from heavy rainfalls.

Many companies today are providing organic coffee, each require certification and designation as per the Organic Food Production Act set fourth in 1990. This act outlines the requirements for growing organic coffee, as well as how their testing can be carried out and what they must do to hold onto their certification.

Growing Fields Must Be Certified Organic

Now it’s not just the growing and handling that must be considered and certified organic when growing coffee. The ground that it grows in must also be free of any ingredients or non-organic substances for at least the last 3 years.

Because the act requires so many intricate modifications to the regular growing process, organic coffee will cost a little more then a non organic brand. Healthy conscious consumers are willing to pay the price for the better beans. AS most organic growers believe that growing the beans with only natural methods and no artificial chemicals helps keep the natural flavor.

Whether the taste is superior to a non-organic coffee is up to the coffee drinker, but there’s no arguing that the organic growing process produces a healthier bean for us to make our favorite cup of joe from.

The Chocolate Princess

The older I get the more determined I am to not have to settle. When I was young I always could pick out the most expensive item in a store, at least that is what my mother says. Not much has changed in 50 years. My desire for quality has simply grown more quality conscious.

Although I wasn’t born with a silver spoon I never wavered from my standards. Sure, over the years, I have had to settle at times. For example, at one time I owned an older Mercedes Benz, but at least I owned one. I say owned because it didn’t take me long to figure out that the repair bills were higher on my Benz just for the name.

My taste in clothes is much the same. I have been happily inducted into the fashion police club. I remember fondly the year I spent working for Chase Manhattan Bank in the executive wing in Tampa, Florida before they merged with J.P. Morgan. There were three of us that hung out together. We would rate the way the other employees were dressed and sometimes it was pretty bad. We weren’t cruel or rude, we just quietly giggled over lunch.

I also remember well a visit from my baby brother, Steven, down from Atlanta, Georgia. I met him at the Tampa Airport and when he saw me again for the first time in six years he exclaimed, “Wow sis, you are gorgeous!” That made my millennium for sure!

My taste for fine wine and food is no different than my tastes for anything else. I may not drink $100 bottles of wine every night but I have enjoyed a few. And then there is chocolate; my one true vice.

I have a real love/hate relationship with chocolate. I love it when it is dark, creamy, and rich but as for my hips, well I think you understand. I have eaten all the best chocolates you can name, from Godiva® to Ghirardelli®, from Swiss to Belgian. However it wasn’t until early in 2006 that I discovered the absolutely, unmistakably, most fabulous chocolate you could ever begin to imagine.

The bakery that I discovered that will forever satisfy my chocolate fantasy is located about 12 miles south of Los Angeles in Whittier, California. My Little Taste of Italy is owned by Gloria Mount and her daughter, Liz. From my very first order of Chocolate Chip, Chocolate dipped biscotti I was hooked. Then, late last year Liz came up with a recipe for Cappuccino Brownies that are out-of-this-world! They are so rich and creamy that Jan Verhoeff, another of their loyal customers, has rightly dubbed them, “Orgasmic!” I have yet to try their Bada Bing-chocolate bundt cake but since it has my favorite ingredient in it you know it will not be long before it too passes over my quivering lips.

I don’t know what their secret is, but I, for one, am certainly glad they found it. Gloria has informed me that My Little Taste of Italy uses authentic Italian chocolate in all of their chocolate goodies. I don’t know what else they do that makes them sooooo yummy, but whatever it is I hope they never stop doing it. It’s no wonder to me that they are gaining a reputation for all of their tasty treats not only across America but in foreign lands as well.

Mama Gloria, as Mrs. Mount is known, is working on several taste sensations for the upcoming holiday. She tells me that they have developed two new flavors of biscotti and a new Florentine cookie she calls “Hot Mama”. I wonder what that secret ingredient is.

My Little Taste of Italy recently put together “Docle of the Month Club”. If you want to experience all they have to offer too this is a very good way to do it. Just look at this list:

* January - Hot buttered Rum Muffins (Box of 4 ) Just add a cup of your favorite hot brew for those wintry nights

* February - Chocolate Chili Cookies, (2 dozen) with pinch of cayenne pepper…enough to spice up your love life! Happy Valentines Day!!!

* March - Irish Crème Muffins (box of 4)…for the Irish in all of us!! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

* April - Sicilian Orange/Almond Muffins (Box of 4). Enjoy spring’s fresh burst of orange flavors.

* May - Mamma’s Biscotti (1 Dozen) - Hats Off to all our Mammas. Happy Mothers Day!!

* June - Cappaccino Brownies (10) - Treat your Dad with his favorites, coffee and chocolate. Happy Fathers Day!!

* July - Angelinas - “The Italian Wedding Cookie” (2 dozen). A tribute to Elizabeth’s wedding reception, where the “Angelinas” were heaped on lovely trays.

* August - Thumbprint Cookies (2 dozen); Just like those footprints in the sand, our own thumb print will hold a dollop of jam. Happy last days of summer!!

* September - Chocolate/Blackberry Muffins (Box of 4 ) Cherish the last of the summer’s berries, mixed with chocolate. End of summer “blues”!!

* October - Old World Florentine Cookies (2 Doz) - Perfect fall colors with the crunch of fallen leaves.

* November - White Wine Muffins (Box of 4 ) Bursting with fall spices.

* December - Fiori de D’Eliso- Our buttery snowball as a tribute to Tony & Colly D’Eliso, our parents and grandparents.

Now I am sure you can see this is the cat’s meow! A true feast for the prince or princess in you.

Diesel

Diesel is produced from petroleum, and is sometimes called petrodiesel when there is a need to distinguish it from diesel obtained from other sources such as biodiesel. It is a hydrocarbon mixture, obtained in the fractional distillation of crude oil between 200 °C and 350 °C at atmospheric pressure.

The density of diesel is about 850 grams per liter whereas gasoline (British English: petrol) has a density of about 720 g/l, about 15% less. When burnt, diesel typically releases about 40.9 megajoules (MJ) per liter, whereas gasoline releases 34.8 MJ/L, about 15% less. Diesel is generally simpler to refine than gasoline and often costs less (although price fluctuations sometimes mean that the inverse is true; for example, the cost of diesel traditionally rises during colder months as demand for heating oil, which is refined much the same way, rises). Also, due to its high level of pollutants, diesel fuel must undergo additional filtration which contributes to a sometimes higher cost.

Diesel powered cars generally have about a 40% better fuel economy than equivalent gasoline engines and produce only about 69% of the greenhouse gases. This greater fuel economy is due to the higher per-liter energy content of diesel fuel and also to the intrinsic efficiency of the diesel engine. While diesel’s 15% higher volumetric energy density results in 15% higher greenhouse gas emissions per liter compared to gasoline, the 40% better fuel economy achieved by modern diesel-engined automobiles offsets the higher-per-liter emissions of greenhouse gases, resulting in significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer.

On the other hand, diesel fuel often contains higher quantities of sulfur. European emission standards and preferential taxation have forced oil refineries to dramatically reduce the level of sulfur in diesel fuels. In contrast, the United States has long had “dirtier” diesel, although more stringent emission standards have been adopted with the transition to ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) starting in 2006 and becoming mandatory on June 1, 2010 (see also diesel exhaust). U.S. diesel fuel typically also has a lower cetane number (a measure of ignition quality) than European diesel, resulting in worse cold weather performance and some increase in emissions. High levels of sulfur in diesel are harmful for the environment because they prevent the use of catalytic diesel particulate filters to control diesel particulate emissions, as well as more advanced technologies, such as nitrogen oxide (NOx) adsorbers (still under development), to reduce emissions. However, the process for lowering sulfur also reduces the lubricity of the fuel, meaning that additives must be put into the fuel to help lubricate engines. Biodiesel is an effective lubricant.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel can be obtained from vegetable oil (vegidiesel / vegifuel), or animal fats (bio-lipids, using ransesterification). Biodiesel is a non-fossil fuel alternative to petrodiesel. It can also be mixed with petrodiesel in any amount in modern engines, though when first using it, the solvent properties of the fuel tend to dissolve accumulated deposits and can clog fuel filters. Biodiesel has a higher gel point than petrodiesel, but is comparable to diesel #2. This can be overcome by using a biodiesel/petrodiesel blend, or by installing a fuel heater, but this is only necessary during the colder months. There have been reports that a diesel-biodiesel mix results in lower emissions than either can achieve alone. A small percentage of biodiesel can be used as an additive in low-sulfur formulations of diesel to increase the lubricity lost when the sulfur is removed.

Chemically, most biodiesel consists of alkyl (usually methyl) esters instead of the alkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons of petroleum derived diesel. However, biodiesel has combustion properties very similar to petrodiesel, including combustion energy and cetane ratings. Paraffin biodiesel also exists. Due to the purity of the source, it has a higher quality than petrodiesel.

Ethanol can be added to petroleum diesel fuel in amounts up to 15% along with additives to keep the ethanol emulsified,[8] however the cetane rating and lubricity of the fuel are both reduced and must be corrected with additives.

ASTM International has developed D6751 as the specification standard for 100% biodiesel, which is used for blending with petroleum diesel. For example, B20 is 20% biodiesel (ASTM D6751) and 80% petroleum diesel (ASTM D975).
